IÚR-fm is Newry City & District’s only community radio station fully licensed by the regulator Ofcom to broadcast on 101.4FM.
IÚR-fm is volunteer-led and provides a variety of opportunities for people to get involved in the operation of the station. Whether that is behind the mic or behind the scenes - every volunteer contributes to the life of our station and the life of our community.
We provide a structured and professional Induction & Training Programme for all volunteers and a Mentor is appointed for those new volunteers who wish to broadcast. We also provide schools placements in March and November each year and can provide Broadcasting Taster Sessions for Youth & Community groups on request.
Our daily Community Call Programme broadcasts Public Service Announcements for local & national charities and groups - so if you are involved in a local charity or group why not contact us about getting your own appeal or message on-air free-of-charge.
Equally, we are committed to supporting our local economy. Our "Local Jobs? Shop Local!" campaign raises awareness that supporting local shops and businesses is the most effective way to create sustainable employment and ensure that money spent locally stays locally.
IÚR-fm also raises issues and concerns on behalf of our listeners. We are independently funded and do not receive any Council support so we are ideally placed to raise issues such as inflation-busting rates rises, massive pay bonuses to local government officials and exorbitant expenses claims by Councillors & MLAs.
